Dance Me to The End of Time
— For Home Use Only —
DANCE ME TO THE END OF TIME is a deeply personal film about love in the face of death. It documents the final years in the life of the pioneering theater director Nancy Diuguid as she battles breast cancer. Nancy, who grew up on a Kentucky tobacco farm that was regularly sprayed with DDT, was a seminal figure in the history and development of LGBTQ and women's theater.
Directed by Nancy's life-partner, award-winning political filmmaker Melanie Chait, the film pays tribute to Nancy as a visionary director and actor who used the creative arts and her own lesbian identity in a lifelong campaign for justice and healing. In addition to her theater work, Nancy spearheaded training workshops in several countries that used the performing arts to address and process trauma. Melanie presents viewers with a loving and honest recounting of Nancy's journey as she navigates her cancer treatment and grapples with mortality and the wellbeing of the loved ones she will leave behind.
Weaving together insights from ecologist Rachel Carson—whose seminal 1962 book, “Silent Spring” exposed the health danger of pesticides to a largely unaware public—with Nancy’s personal story, DANCE ME TO THE END OF TIME powerfully explores the impact of pesticides not only on the environment but also on the human body. The film also explores Rachel Carson’s remarkable legacy, her own battle with cancer, and her personal relationship with close friend Dorothy Freeman.
